Jessica Breland scored 29 points and the Tar Heels held No. 18 Ohio State scoreless for more than nine minutes of the second half to take a 72-63 victory Wednesday night in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
"In the second half we showed them a zone, then matched up, and then we went back to a zone around the 8-minute timeout," North Carolina coach Sylvia Hatchell said. "That messed them up some."
Breland, averaging 13.5 points a game, had 21 in the opening half as the Tar Heels (9-0) opened a 41-37 lead. Cetera DeGraffenreid added 14 points and six assists and Rashanda McCants had 10 points for North Carolina, which improved to 21-9 against the Big Ten and evened its record against the Buckeyes at 3-3.

Watched the game (in HD no less) on the Big Ten Network. It was a game of runs but UNC ultimately had too much for Ohio State (despite diplomatic immunity for their center).

McCants and Alex Miller had on face masks -- Rashanda has a broken nose and she REALLY struggled with the mask all night. It completely threw off her game and frustrated the crap out of her (including taking it off for a brief stretch and getting popped in the face later on (with the mask on, thank goodness)).

Breland was hitting anything she threw up but she looked exhausted in the second half -- maybe even a back strain?

And, btw, Chay Shegog made one of the best no-look passes you will ever see (men's or women's hoops). She is a realy keeper.

UNC has too many unforced turnovers, but the defense and rebounding are tough. I still don't think this team is quite as great as their record -- the offense turns it over too easily and they lose concentration during the game -- but they've looked better than everyone else I've seen except UConn. They are a really fun team to watch, though.
