Congratulations bosox fans.

You can now take your 160 million payroll and invade the Rockies and think of yourselves as Davids slaying Goliaths and all. Gee guys, all you really need to do now is dump Lugo, hope the Yanks sour on ARod, then sign him for 40 mil/yr for 8 years and you'll be set, right?

See you guys next summer if this place still exists--I think my visits to this site over the coming months will be limited to the UNC board for occasional basketball talk.
A tad bitter are we?
As to the 160 M payroll, I guess it should be some consolation that the Tribe got there on considerably less and did very well. I just think that franchise has to make a decision particularly in the AL-East to either compete with the yankmees or to hope for one of those lightning in a jar years.
How the Sox fans see the contest with the Rockies...certainly not as David-Goliath. The Rockies finished hot and may remain so.

oy, vey. i guess this raw kind of sentiment would be commonly found at the scene of a trainwreck

thing is, the Tribe is too good. the let down is too great. manifestly, you need a BAD team to follow. in doing so, you kind of toughen up and become cynical rather than investing emotion and what have you. when you are ready to make this investment let me know, i have some ideas for you

An emotional investment counselor?Smile I needed of those before my last marriage. Diversify?
my specialty is in Expectations Management. a niche market, to be sure.

congratulations to the sawks. quite the turnaround, i did not believe that schilling and Dice K had it in em. i figure it was the ceremonial first pitch by a baltimore oriole, kevin millar, that got everyone's karma together

by the way, the benighted Crisp, C. made an outlandish grab to end the game last night. he was up on his horse at full gallop when he snared that one
Well, let me make one more post to clarify--don't wanna be taken as some bitter crybaby, doncha know.

Don't need your guidance there, Longhair--am long familiar with what it's like to follow a bad team and the resulting cynicism.

In this particular situation, I knew after a couple of innings of Sabathia's start in game 5 that this series was lost. Wasn't negativism or fear--it was just flat-out knowledge based on momentum shift and recent re-translations of Nostradamus. Only a Tribe fan would truly understand this stuff, though Nostradamus is not accepted by all of us as fact.

Now, as to taking hiatus from this particular forum. You know, Fayette did get it right on that thread of his a couple of weeks back. This is a place where certain of us just go through some sort of obligatory exercise and try to elicit high marks for cool. There's no real baseball discussion here--not saying that there should be, for that matter--it's way too far gone to bemoan what might have been. It is though an absolute fact that those few who come here, and you know who you are, are the only reason I still come back after all these years---and those years are numerous--I guess we're talking 10 or 11 by now.

Anyway, I guess it all comes down to whether or not you want to do a mid-week appearance at that Holiday Inn in Dubuque or not. I'm simply giving notice that I'll do the equivalent of a Saturday matinee in RDU, which roughly equates to the UNC board during basketball season. Baseball season is officially over, for me anyway. Gone are the days of Manhattan Saturday nights or for that matter even St. Louis Sundays. Yeah, the TS is the closest thing but whatever it is now I don't really want any part of--it appears more in-bred than anything else, I guess.
Quote:There's no real baseball discussion here

and thank the high heavens for that, as said discussions get real tedious in an eye blink. so and so has a WHIP of X. this or that manager should/shouldn't have made that pitching change. who will trade for Lidge, who should make the AL all star team at 1B? i think we have had all these discussions before. what we haven't had is the cool turn of the phrase, the latest NY Post splash, the sardonic waynehead rejoinder

actually, we HAVE had the sardonic waynehead reposte before, i tossed that in there to balance out the meter

have a good offseason big 4
blech.

Go Rockies (High in Colorado)
Suck it.
Had I known that Biggie would pick up his ball and bat and go home, it might have influenced my rooting in game 7 of the LCS. Or not.

Mr. Fries, if this is it until the spring, have a good winter. Stock a little extra brandy for freshening the beverages for the hot stove discussions and don't forget where the forum is. Since Prof is cutting back on the per capita donut ration for his henchmen, there's little chance of assembling another posse to come bring you in again.
I don't really know much about baseball--let's see, WHIP = something something innings pitched? something homer something percentage? I don't know--but if biggie's gone, I may be available. I mean, I hate the Town Square, hate the State board, and hate the Yankees. I think Beltway Bengal dislikes me, but I can take him.

OK, I can talk about Ashanti singing God Bless America right now on my television. Waiting... OK, there it is, the standard black girl oversinging thing. But probably not as bad as Lauryn Hill would have done. Can an African-American just hold a note steady for once? All that garish noodling. It's like Yngwie Malmsteen is playing their vocal chords.

biggie does, of course, have an excellent point about payroll. I mean, really, what is it I loathe about the Yankees if not the buckets of cash they use to steal every small/medium market team's stars? And Boston's buckets are indeed nearbout as big. Still, I think of Wade Boggs, Roger Clemens, Johnny Damon--who has Boston taken from the Yanks?

Hey hey hey now. The baseball board is colorblind. Yer off to a rough start here.
Is it just me or does Hurdle look like an older Alec Baldwin? I know one thing, he's imposing. I feel like he's about to whup my ass for that "black girl" thing right through the TV. Just interrupt his own press conference and reach through the screen and bust me in the teeth.

my friends, i move we draw statesmith in off the waiting list. he is manifestly over credentialed to appear and be heard, given the above.

we all have our roles, i have said this 10000 times. Bengal is legally trained, one of these substantive kind of guys with a conscience you run into occasionally. conscience guys are always tough, particularly on them (you, me, waynehead) that by and large make their living slinging insult and invective. the guy to watch carefully is this sandlapper spike gent. he's an old wiley motha, he'll kill you, just kill you, with his statistics. public humiliation and dealing in ignominy is his game. i implore you to not attempt to make any kind of case built upon historical data of any kind. the game will be up in a lightning strike.

statesmith, do you keep up with kong owen fooley? i task you with dragging him back in here for his annual cameo. i will do the same with deac diggler, whose contribution is also long past due

I was thinking more along the lines of Joe Satriani, but the point is made.

It's high time we had a Florabama update...
WHIP=Walks+Hits/Innings Pitched I believe

Hurdle remind me of someone. He does have a Baldwin look. He reminds me more of Mac Davis.

Here's the thing about statesmith. we can't rely on him. a regular, he ain't, and tho i'm loathe to use this analogy b/c i know it'll go straight to his head i think it's best: he's like some indifferent greek god popping in and out, sometimes fixing things, sometimes making them a lot worse (through action), sometimes letting things fester through inaction. think...kong fooey, but without the charm. we need a more reliable gadfly.
Quote:a regular, he ain't

agreed. he's no Greco-Roman deity either btw. you seen him? he combines the manly good looks of that one eyed guy in the hercules fable with the sober introspectiveness of bacchus
I ain got with KFool lately. I always mean to, but I just haven't.

Look, if you're going to compare me to he of the Dumber Boards Now! Protesting And Strutting Wolf, of course I'm going to fall short. But this a buyer's market. I mean, even a guy like, I don't know, NCTrafficMan comes around, y'all have to take him. Eric da Terp, he's in. I guess I'm saying you should jump on this, stop looking a gift titan in the mouth.
With the revolving door of boarddom, do we even have titans anymore? Or has that term gone the way of, well the Greek gods and their Titan forebears?

And to keep on topic, I have yet to intentionally watch a minute of a LCS or WS game this season. If I was a more dedicated fan of the entire sport, I guess I'd be rooting for the Rockies because I've yet to find an American League team whose fans didn't make me want to hurl. But without the Braves present in the postseason, I just find it difficult to generate any energy for baseball. I mean, it is football season & the weather is finally recognizing my desire to wear sweatshirts & drink hot beverages spiced up with alkyholic beverages while cuddling under a blanket in the bleachers with my honey of a Wuffie. Wake me when spring training is over, yo...Alarm
Quote:I've yet to find an American League team whose fans didn't make me want to hurl....
...as opposed to Braves' fans, who just don't show up. Wink

Quote:With the revolving door of boredom....
Corrected for spelling.

here the Ga. Peach delivers a stinging smack across the broad manly jaws of a handful of message board posters, like Moe used to do with Curly and Shemp.

damn. i'm all, like, ouch babe

rubs jaw in amazement at the unbridled enthusiasm of the blow
