And Jon Benet Ramsey thought she had a bad night.

ESPN's headline: "Thirty Little Secret"
30 runs in a game, all batted in. did not happen in the 1900s. 39 runs have never been scored against a team in one day. ever. at any time. paleozoic era to the present.

Texas Utility infielder Ramon Vasquez had 2 homers and 7 RBI's in this game. As the much maligned and occasionally spit upon UI for the Tribe in '06 he managed 8 RBI's for the entire season.
As I understand it 7-9 in the Texas batting order totaled 16 RBI's.
This is so obviously related to a pre-game steroids party.

Marlon Byrd, Sprayberry HS grad and former next-door neighbor, hit one of the grand slams. Always great to see a good guy do well!

"one of the grand slams" is a phrase most pitching coaches hate.

Quote:"one of the grand slams" is a phrase most pitching coaches hate.Anyone here remember when Tony Cloninger, erstwhile hurler for the Bravos, hit a coupla Big Dingers in one game?

As the much maligned and occasionally spit upon UI for the Tribe in '06 he managed 8 RBI's for the entire season.I'm reminded here of a player named Brant Alyea, who toiled for the hapless Senators in the late '60s. He wasn't much...IIRC, he never hit over .260 for them in 3-4 seasons, so they traded him to the Twins in the offseason. We had a guy in my neighborhood who was a bandwagon fan of the Twins (most of us hated them because, well, you know...), and he was on me like a cheap suit when Alyea, on opening day in the Frozen North, drove in something like eight runs, and Why Didn't I Root For A Good Team, BTW? I made a little wager with him that Alyea, including the eight runs he drove in on Day One, wouldn't drive in 70 for the season. As I recall, Alyea topped out around 65 ribbies, and I won the bet.
Twin bashing is good for the soul, in case it needs to be said.....

I'm just stunned that the guy who came in to relieve the starter in the 7th, when the score sat at 6-3, got a farkin' SAVE for completing the game, as his team tacked on 24 insurance runs.

Well, it's not easy maintaining a 27-run lead when the other team still has three outs to go.

^LOL I think the kind of pitching you see at the Home Run Derby would suffice.

Last evening, David Letterman noted that he hadn't seen "30" on a scoreboard since a Knicks' game. Much hilarity ensued....
