Lot of interesting changes. Personally, I think Donovan would be crazy not to take the Kentucky job. He has a legitimate shot at Wooden's record there, as Pitino did.

Certainly make the Kentucky - UNC game more interesting.
Beilen(sp) from WVU looks like he's going to Michigan. A noted WVU fan/alum had the following comment:

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!1111
donovan has built a powerhouse at florida. i think he'd be a fool to leave.
I think it is a wee bit early to start comparing eddie munster to John Wooden.

Billy has 4 sweet sixteens in 13 years.

Roy has 11 sweet sixteens in 19 years

K has 17 in 27 years.

billy does seem to close well, when he gets there, though.

There's simply NOBODY that can keep me entertained like my boy supersport keeps me entertained!!1
I expect UF will be announcing a new salary package very soon.
I love the "Eddie Munster" reference above!

Lmao

If he had blond hair, he'd sort of remind me of Max Headroom.
dana altman changed his mind today, a day after accepting the arkansas job. he is heading back to creighton.

He is a wildcard.
Bane Wrote:dana altman changed his mind today, a day after accepting the arkansas job. he is heading back to creighton.

This shocked me, because Altman has come very close to leaving Creighton before only to pull away at the last minute (Miami before they hired Perry Clark.) I thought this meant Altman was looking for one last job. It's good for the Valley that he stays, but Arkansas has to be scrambling now.

WV is now on the market. I could see Gregg Marshall landing there, but I think they look at former Beilein assistant and EKU coach Neugbauer and Tulsa's Doug Wojcik as top candidates. I think WV would be interested in someone with ties to the state so they don't keep looking upward like Beilein has been the past couple of years.
Jerry West is free i believe

It appears certain fans of a common thread are absolutely terrified of Donovan going to Kentucky and elevating its program to a category of one, leaving them in a second tier, and with the resurgence of UCLA, not even at the top of it.

Wooden was 55 when he won his second title. Donovan is 43.

He just won two titles in two years. It's entirely feasible he could win eight or ten more in 20 - 25 years at Kentucky. When you take them two at the time, they add up quickly.

He'll get the type of talent UNC gets at Kentucky. A monkey can win with that. He would dominate.

He strike me as the kind of guy that is going to aim as high as he can, and he can't aim as high at Forida as he could at Kentucky.

Why's that?
when 4x the folks attend the Spring Football game than the rally for the Bball team returning, you kinda realize how you stand.
Rotflmao

but then again, Monkeys CAN TYPE.

It appears a certain fan is every bit as delusional, and in just as entertaining a manner, about basketball as he is about economics.

I simply can't tell you how grateful I am that you decided to show up on the new boards!

Billy Donovan has had enormous talent at Florida, yet in his 11 year tenure at Florida, his teams have have won one NCAA tournament game, or less, in 7 of those 11 years.

A category of one, indeed!

I agree with Bane - Donovan has built up a top-flight program at Florida. He's proven he can win, and the big-time recruits will continue to go there.

He'd be crazy to go to Kentucky.

Yes, exactly as feasible as K doing so. Did you notice how quickly they added up for K after he won two titles in two years, since which he's had "that type of talent" and has won exactly one title in the last 15 seasons?

Perhaps we could get that home-schooled 6th grader to explain to you the difference scholarship and other recruiting rules, the 3pt shot and the fact that teams now have to win six games to win the title, and do so against far more talented and athletic teams in the early rounds, have made on the likelihood of one team dominating for any extended period of time. Personally, I hope she doesn't explain it to you. It's much more fun this way!
also, the increase in conf tournaments to [now, all?] and the UNlikelihood of having most talented players return (iirc, last year's group was mainly sophomores, returning this year as juniors)
This was too easy.

Youse guys are just going to have to sweat it out for a few weeks, but if he moves to Kentucky, the UNC's, Duke's, UCONN's etc. of the game are nto going to be in the same category as Kentucky with Donovan.

He'll have the amount of talent Doherty handed to Williams year-in year-out, which was several steps above what he just won two titles with. He does not have four lottery picks on this squad. [/align]
sweating commences, then Rolleyes

i would say that you DO REALIZE the higher the caliber of talent the higher percentage that they are 1 and Done, but then i remembered it was you.

Donovan @ FL has proven to be formidable and obviously now with 2 titles, MORE TALENT will be attracted there (a bit better scenery than UK, i imagine)... but it's hardly like there isn't tons of talent out there to be recruited.

Enjoy your strawworld fantasy tho!
I oppose the one and done's because I think it is an outrageous advantage for the top schools, but it is irrefutable that the one and dones improve teams, provided they have a coach that can utilize them. Connelly and Odom were the best players on the floor for Ohio State in the final game.

Also, with the program he would develop at Kentucky, many that would be onbe and done will stay.

And I doubt there's any shortage of the other talent at Kentucky. They seem to have some sort of lineage of perfect-10 blond cheerleaders.

Admittedly they're probably not quite as liberal as UNC girls though.
Donovan would be an idiot to take the UK job. Supersport, I don't think you can even fathom how much pressure there is to win at UK. It's exponentially greater than it would be at Florida and I bet Donovan is smart enough to realize that he doesn't need it, especially when rumor has it that the Memphis Grizzlies are prepared to offer him about 8 million bucks a year.

There is no higher pressure job in college basketball than UK and Donovan knows this because he was on Pitino's staff. My guess is that he'll go to the NBA...

No way he takes the UK job.

Let's see if you're willing to put your money where your mouth is.

Should Donovan take the Kentucky job, you pay me $100 for every year he doesn't win an NCAA title at Kentucky, and I'll pay you $500 for every year he does win one, with both of us having to consent before terminating the wager, for so long as Donovan remains coach at Kentucky. We'll find a mutually agreeable party to hold the money each year.

Agreed?

Great! That means you're gonna be RICH!!1

Now's your chance, big boy.
