So these moron idiot hikers are appealing their 8 year sentence to some Iran court

what a couple of idiot fools. There are infinite places to hike and they screwed their life by being idiot morons.

As far as I am concerned let them rot.

When I hike I make damned sure I stay off of private property (there are some rare occasions that private owners allow you on to see a waterfall, but I knock on the door and we are friendly)

When I hike I know where I am and you better be sure I do not want to be shot meandering on a mountain man's ranch.

So these guys decide to hike on the Iraq/Iran border during wartime? Really?

If that is the story let them have the 8 years. Ridiculous.

For this apparent extreme stupidity to now rise to the level of international incident with diplomatic implications is beyond words. These guys should be pilloried if they ever make it back.

I think it's insane of Iran to be this harsh, but you do have a point. The other day I was asking someone why would anyone be hiking in an area such as that, especially not being able to tell where exact borders are. They are probably some of the best of your "intellectual elite". Hopefully, others will learn from the mistakes made by these two. Once you get out of the US, you really are at the mercy of international courts.

Agree completely.

Iran's prosecution of those dipsticks demonstrates what a bunch of oppressive jerks they are, as if everyone didn't already know, but anyone who freely chooses to hike along the Iraq/Iran border with the situation being what it was at that time, deserves whatever they get.

The three are graduates of the University of California at Berkeley
I absolutely agree with WTZ. Sometimes people show such incredibly bad judgement that I simply cannot elicit any sympathy for them and this is one of those times.
Even though they've proved their idiocy, I'm glad they're back alive. Could this little "Birkenstocker" be blaming the US in some capacity?

The irony of it all, Bauer said, "is that Sarah, Josh and I oppose U.S. policies towards Iran which perpetuate this hostility."

I guess he has yet to learn that Iran will always have hostility toward us, as there is no reasoning with them.

An illustration of the classic "Blame America First" mentality: if they hate us, it must be our fault. Personally, I'd like to send the little [] back to their friends in Tehran.

Why am I not surprised that they're from Berkeley?

Agreed.

If we send them back, I wonder if they'd give the $1 million back.

Ha, no - they didn't want them in the first place. Iran got what it wanted, money. Too bad the entity that gave the money can't get it back, due to the little "unappreciative ass" saying what he did. He was doing fine except for that one liner, where he just couldn't help himself.

Agree. Before I set out hiking about the mountains I make sure who owns what and where I can safely trot about. What the bleedin' *colorful language* were they thinking?

They weren't thinking - they're from that liberal bastion, Berkeley.
