Baseball, Men's and Women's Basketball...

Our beloved alma mater's athletic teams need some seminar activity. Perhaps a course taught by a true finisher...

We need to start putting folks AAAA-Way
Our coaches and teams need to develop some toughness. When they hit an obstacle in a big spot, they seem to collapse. They have all the talent in the world but then come up short.
Used to love to roll one up and go see Charlie mess em up!
I really think it comes down to the mindset that you see in a lot of different teams at this time of year. Great seasons in which, most of the time, they haven't been tested all that much. You get into a game with a little too much confidence, and keep waiting for someone to step it up. Sadly, lately, everyone is waiting, and no one is stepping.
John Holmes. Now there was a finisher.

Happens to every team but one in every sport every year.
Bomber, he was a PUNISHer!
Certain athletes have the killer instinct ... Jordan, Magic, Gretzky, Brett Hull, Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, Mariano Rivera, Mia Hamm, etc. - hell, even Robert Horry.

Sometimes it takes a person of that ilk to carry a team and make clutch decisions and moves at the key times.  Unfortunatetly, we didn't have that happen this past year.  Not necessarily a superstar, but a player who can rise above the futility and bring the team home steadily.  Part leadership, part performance guy/girl.

That's not to say that couldn't change, because often clutch performers are born out of tough situations like what we've seen.

That being said, the baseball lost was the worst of the 3.  The Heels, even back in March had identified defense as their weakness and did little to improve on it over the course of the season, often hitting their way out of trouble.  It came back to bite them in the most important game of the season.
I think Tyler has some of those attributes but perhaps not the physical talent of those you mentioned. Unfortunately, if they quit getting the ball in to him it makes "taking over" much more difficult.

except college football.

Its not WHAT happened, but HOW.

Baseball we blew a one game and five run lead and then error'ed our way to the loss of the next game.

In mens college bball we blew a 10 point lead with six minutes left because of a once in a lifetime type of breakdown - missing nearly 20 shots!!!!

In womens it we were up by twelve and choked it away by not scoring a field goal in the final eight minutes!!!!!

Painful stuff.
