Obviously this is another case of our Mooslim President trying to "take our guuuns!!" Why can't an innocent out of state armed guy (with police flashers on his car even though he is not a cop) go visit the place where Air Force one is leaving??? This Gestapo jack booted thug activity by our Mooslim-in-Chief has to stop!! O-Bots just try to defend this horrible action!!! Fox news will give this poor Patriot a show to defend himself!!!

Armed man arrested at NC airport as Obama departs

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Police say an Ohio man has been charged after authorities spotted him with a gun in a North Carolina airport parking lot as Air Force One was departing.
Airport police Capt. Kevan Smith says at about 2 p.m. Sunday, officers saw 23-year-old Joseph McVey get out of a car in the public lot and he was wearing a handgun.
Security was heightened because President Barack Obama was departing after vacationing in the state. The suspect was nowhere near the president's plane.
Smith says McVey's car had strobe lights like a police car might, but the suspect is not in law enforcement.
McVey is charged with going armed in terror of the public, a misdemeanor.
Smith says the investigation into what McVey was doing with a gun and why his car was equipped with strobe lights is continuing.

Glad he is from Ohio, not from North Carolina.

You and me both

Oh and I hope my over the top commentary in my initial post is taken with the light-hearted levity in which I meant for it to be taken.
Gee, doesn't the Constitution grant this guy the right to do what he did?
What are the laws in the area?
The suspect was nowhere near the president's plane.

Probably:
impersonating a police officer
unregistered firearm
illegal transportation of a weapon
Just for starters.
Quote:McVey's car
Now that part's just a tad creepy at 5:30 AM.
Don't know a lot of details yet, but local NC news last night said he was charged w/ a misdemeanor. Don't think the incident was a huge deal, but it could get bigger.

The constitution has nothing to say about strobe lights on one's car.

In the photo, the eyes remind me of John Hinckley. The police scanner and notes on rifle scopes in his car are troubling.

Which of course pi$$es me off to no end.
I am a licensed Amateur "Ham" Radio Operator as
well as a Radio Monitoring Enthusiast (or scanner buff)
and it is wackos like this guy that give the hobby a bad
name. Outside of my full time I.T. job I work with
local Public Safety agencies in a radio consulting position.
I help them not only determine which mutual aid channels are
vital to have but also how to use scanners to monitor
other agencies around them.
Scanners are first and foremost used by law abiding citizens
like myself along with public safety personnel (on and off duty).
It is idiots like this guy who give the whole hobby a
"black eye".
Which then gives more and more agencies the motive to encrypt their day to day routine communications (which should be open to the public).

Gee, I feel for ya but can't quite reach you. Welcome to the world of responsible gun owners. If 1,000,000 of us do good, the media will not report it but let one fruitcake like this fellow loose and the MSM will scream for more gun control. That's the way the MSM and their agendas work.

So you are assuming he was impersonating a police officer,,,, do you know his firearm a. had to be registered, and b. was not, and the said transportation of the weapon was illegal? If so, can you site me links to the facts of his actions and the laws pertaining to them?
The introductory comments to this thread were so wacky, I didn't even get into the real article.
Not defending him, but again, it seems the guy is more dumb than anything else, i.e., carrying a firearm (even legally) @ an airport where Air Force One is. He is still only charged w/ a misdemeanor. As for the scanner, strobe lights, etc., apparently he is a bona fide storm chaser (again indicating he is nuts). News says the sheriff in Ohio has revoked his gun carry permit now.

According to the NRA-ILA reciprocity guide, the Ohio carry permit is legal in NC. Even the misdemeanor charge may not stick if he chooses to fight it.
However, I think he was really dumb to openly display the pistol when Air Force One was anywhere close, permit to carry or not. Common sense was clearly lacking on his part. That alone is good reason for the issuing Sheriff in Ohio to take his permit away.
