... stays at number 4 after losing to the Terps? Was their win over UNC THAT impressive?
I have pondered that myself... Sometimes it does seem that the people who do the rankings don't understand simple math.
The NCAA tourney is nature's way of rendering polls useless.
Had more to do with everybody else losing too. And even though Carolina does suck, it was an impressive arse whooping. Doesn't matter though, it's all posturing for the post season anyway.
I think we can all agree that the polls, in all sports, are flawed. Fortunately, in basketball at least, there's a post-season tournament. The same flaws that exist in the basketball polls exist in the Football poll. In the case of Football, the polls directly determine the "national champion."
Keep them under the radar.
I was surprised that Duke stay at #4.
I was expecting them to drop to #6 - #8.

I would love to see Duke play UNC once more this season, but that doesn't seem likely.

I hope Duke and Maryland get the chance to meet on Sunday, that would make for a good championship game.

Oh, please! The Terp nation has had enough heart attack games this year. I don't think we could stand one more.

Yes it was.
Now, go home. Thank you for playing.
While the win over UNC was good, impressive it was not. This edition of Carolina hoops sucks out loud. The only poll that matters is the last one. The rest if just fof bragging rights.

Hey, the Terps ran up 10 more points than Dook against the Heels.
They need an excuse to give them a 1 seed and stick them in Greensboro.
IF Duke is able to win the ACC Tourney, I don't think you can use the term "an excuse".
Duke is the no 1 RPI team

but if you look through the schedules of the top teams it's hard to find a team that has many impressive wins:

should be an interesting toonament. nobody has been immune to being upset

If Duke wins the ACC tourney this year, I can almost see them getting the #2 overall -- which would be absurd. I can name four Big East teams and a couple of SEC and Big 12 teams that would feast on Duke (or pretty much any ACC school) in the tourney this time around. For a team like Duke, seeding is crucial. They do not match up well with some of the more big athletic teams in the top 10 and getting a 1 seed in Greensboro or somewhere close to ACC country helps them out immeasurably. They do not want to see a Villanova or WVU or Old Dominion in the sweet 16 out west.

MD is on a tear but, like last year, they can be a one-man show. If Vasquez goes cold or gets shut down, they could be in for a short tournament. They need a 3 seed, IMO, if they are going to make it to the 16. What may be best for MD --- and some of the other ACC schools -- is to get a lower seed in the East or South.
I would agree that this Duke team is not to the top tier with Kentucky, Kansas, or 'Cuse. Maybe Ohio State... maybe not.

I would like to see them get a #1 seed, because as you pointed out, it could help them a lot with match-ups.
Well, whatever the case, I hope the Big East or SEC does not win a national championship. I'll root for Kansas if I have to.

Well, we are a bit more civil than you are I guess.
I would actually prefer a six seed for the Terps over a 4/5...it would put off a potential match-up with the top seed to the second game of the second weekend.

With respect to Duke's seeding, I think we're all confident that they will be overseeded this year, just as they have been every year for the last 5-6 years.

And Maryland is usually overseeded as well, that is when they even make the tournamentSmile

Really? When is the last time the Terps lost to a team they should have beaten, according to the seedmeisters? OTOH, Duke was a no. 2 seed last year and was destroyed by no. 3 Villanova. In 2008 they were again a 2 seed and were throttled by no. 7 West Virginia. In 2007, as a 6 seed, they were beaten by no. 11 Virginia Commonwealth. In 2006, they were a top seed and were beaten easily by no. 4 seed LSU. In 2005, again as a top seed, they were handled by no. 5 Michigan State. This year, they are a 1 in the easiest regional in the tournament, yet they'll probably lose again in the Sweet 16, if not before.

Good pull.

I would have given Duke the benefit of the doubt had they been competitive with Villanova last year in a 2 v. 3 game, since a 2 v. 3 game can usually go either way, just as a 4 v. 5 game can, but we know how that turned out. The two Terp losses losses as a 4 v. 5 were by two points each, and the Terps, a bubble team in 2004 as a result of winning the ACC Tournament, known in College Park as "Gone In 2:20", were badly overseeded that year. UCLA would have beaten anyone in the country that night in 2000...midway through the second half, they were shooting > 75%, including about 80% from three-point range. If I say Duke v. Georgetown, it comes close to describing that game. No excuse for the 1999 loss to St. John's...it was our best season in many years and we laid an egg, not scoring for the last ten minutes of the first half.

I'm curious to hear your take on Duke's last five flameouts in the NCAAT.
Just about every year we have a new NCAA champion. Very few repeat champions. It's just hard to win it all the time wouldn't you say? Duke gets a high seed because they usually have a great season. If you're a top seed you will always lose to a lower seed unless you play another #1 in the Final Four. Sure Duke lost some heartbreakers that it appeared they should have won, but lookie at Kansas Lol

Tough break for you guys yesterday. I was pulling for you hard
Damn Terps!
I had you beating Kansas and going to the FF. I actually bought in to the hype about your team.

Never trust a turtle.
