a fantastic team that is young
Now the NBA speculation starts.
wow that was one longggg dry spell there ... very good season ... bummer of an ending ... thanks for such a fun year, heels.
They all need to come back and get one.

The part of the season I hate the most
If Wright leaves we've got Thompson. He's looked good all year. If Lawson leaves, big mistake imo, we still have Frasor and Thomas. I think Tyler stays. We will have a good team next year. Maybe not dominate but definetly good.
We won't be 8-8, that's for sure.
If you want to see something that will break your heart, go to Gametracker and look at the "Game Flow" view.
Lawson played very little defense today. He had two very bad t/o's which really hurt us and got GT's run going. Oh well, a great year by a very young team.
Ty was freaking exhausted. I was BEGGING Roy to take him out around the 8 minute mark. THat's why he had 2 straight TOs at that time.
^ good point. I was surprised neither Frasor, Wes or QT didn't come in (I know the likelyhood was minimal they would, but had it in the back of my mind).

We neglected Tyler down the strech. Part of that was on Hibbert defending him well, but part of that was our shot selection.
Yeah, nice to use depth if you have it. Did Lawson play the whole second half????

Bottom line, as jws will probably finally agree, we lost the game on D.

You can't give the other team 30 points in uncontested layups and 18 points in uncontested threes.
Reminded me of the Maryland game where we were up 10 and lost.

Sorry it ended in the Final 8 but I'd like to thank Roy, the assistant coaches and all the players for a terrific season.
I'm still in disbelief. I don't understand why such poor shot selection took place around the 10 minute mark and why Roy didn't call a TO to calm them down. I know that's not the way he rolls, but in the tourney you have to use your timeouts appropriately. And I dread saying this, but it has to be said, I had zero confidence that we were going to score on the last possession in regulation. I can't remember the last time we had the ball in the last few seconds and made a game winning shot. I can remember quite a few defensive stands, but not on the offensive end.

I'm going to have nightmares of Wallace hitting the 3 to tie it up. Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh.

Is it October yet?
According to roy frasor was hurt, that's why lawson played so much.
microcosm was the exact word that popped into my mind in those minutes immediately following the end of the game as I walked into my back yard looking for a small animal to kick or bird to throw a rock at.

The overtime period of yesterday's game was one of the most disheartening stretches of time in recent memory. It was a true abomination--a genuine, and, unfortunately, completely expected, kick in the stomach.

What made it particularly bad was the fact that the comeback against Southern Cal had given me a renewed hope, an increased belief that this team had learned how to take care of business.

Despite agreeing with the most commonly given euphemism for this team's failure, youth, viewing the last 10 or so minutes of gametime was intensely bitter for me.

I remain a little disappointed that an on-floor leader for this team did not develop.

Roy used his depth very well everywhere except at point. It was a calculated risk and I think he paid a very dear price for it.

My biggest fear, as I stated last week before we played USC, was that Roy would not have enough confidence in his backup point guards to give Ty plenty of rest so he'd be at full strength and full speed at crunch time, especially in the second game of the weekend.

Actually, it's you who has finally gotten on board. I've stated all along that the only loss we've had all season where our defense wasn't the biggest factor was the second VaTech game.

Georgetown's a very good team that provided serious matchup problems for our defense and took advantage of them, yet, we'd still have won, but for not being able to throw one in the ocean for the last several minutes. Sometimes, things like that just happen.

Great coach, wonderful kids, 31 wins, elite 8, excruciating loss at the end, but a great season!

Thanks to the staff and to the players, especially Reyshawn and Wes!

sadly too much like a few '90s Final Fours. As aggravating as the numerous backdoors and open threes were, ^this was the case. And part of the reason why I, once again, was dismayed by the "final shot play".
BUT---the "final shot play" gave Ellington a pretty good look--just didn't go down. Whereas you may have preferred to go inside for a surer two, going inside against the likes of Hibbert and Green didn't really give us very much all day.

Whatever---watching that overtime period, though, was just a flat-out embarrassment. I could actually hear the laughter and glee of the Carolina haters running through my head. It was sort of like the way I felt when I got my draft notice back in '70.

Fixed that one for you.
Thanks, Vid--you were quite right to fix that.

Whereas one can argue the the pg was a frosh and that removes him from a leadership role--that's not really true. There have been many examples of frosh pg's becoming the leader by this late stage of the season.

Too, I find it incomprehensible that Hansbrough isn't this person. He certainly has all the fire, determination and guts on display. Lord, I hate to find any fault with this kid, but it's hard for me to believe that he has not been called upon to act as leader in his athletic past at least. It's not that I expect too much of him--it's just that he seems to have ALL the necessary qualifications for the job.
"According to roy frasor was hurt, that's why lawson played so much."

If Lawson leaves and Frasor continues to be injury prone; we are in deep $*#@ next year at PG. Think the ladies have a couple coming in. ;-)
Q will do a wonderful job at the point next year, whether it's backing up Ty and/or Bobby or as a starter, and the more playing time he gets, the better he'll get.

This is one of the things I do not like about the "one-and-done, lottery pick players."

Playing time given to Lawson cut into playing time that would otherwise have gone into further development and experience for Thomas and Frasor. Lawson rightfully earned the confidence of the coahces but if he bolts for the NBA after just one year, that's an investment gone sour. In effect, it leaves us stranded (or in a more unfavorable situation) at the point guard and shooting guard positions.

If Tyler and Wright also leave, it's rebuilding time all over again, just like after the 2004-2005 season. It's exhausting, frustrating, and difficult to establish consistency in a basketball program when you can't get at least two years out of your best players.

I disagree.

For one thing, the playing time thing is a two way street. Schools don't guarantee that a kid who starts and plays 25 mpg one season will do so the next, as Wes and Bobby can attest, so the "investment gone sour" thing works both ways.

For another, even if they both jump, having had Ty and Brandan on the team was well worth it, as 31 wins, ACC regular season and tourney championships, an elite 8 finish and many memorable moments clearly demonstrate.

For yet another, Bobby, Q and the other returnees have plenty of experience, plus the added maturity of another year and having subordinated their game tot he team, to not only compete, but to thrive and excel next season.

I don't think Ty or Tyler will leave, though I'm almost certain Brandan will, but whatever happens, even if they all jump, I'm very glad they came here, I wish them well, and Carolina basketball will be just fine next season with the players we've got returning, plus whomever Roy brings in.
