A lot of bad juju last night in that game, even before it started.
1) It was a road game. Duke isn't good on the road this year.
2) UNC had lost 6 of their last 7. They're itching for a win.
3) It's friggin UNC! If the Holes can't get up for the Blue Devils, they never will.

Then the game started. Duke shot for crap again. The stat that keeps getting throw at us every game is Scheyer, Singler and Smith are the highest scoring trio in the nation - and Smith put up a fat ZERO in the first half. Duke was unstoppable behind the arch and flat out terrible in front of it. 27% FG is the stat I heard. UNC had about a dozen block shots and Duke had barely any points in transition for our enormous turnover ratio. Sure, Duke killed them on the offensive board, but our big guys just can't seem to finish strong with a dunk or something (well, except Mason P.).

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad Duke won. I'm thrilled Duke beat UNC. Anytime Duke kills those Tar Heel jerks in the Dean Dome, I'm dancing in the snow covered streets of Milwaukee, WI.

But I don't think Duke deserved to win that game. Oy vey Coach K has got some work to do.

Duke deserved win, no question. They didn't play well and neither did the heels. But they did out rebound, out hustle, and finished the game better than the faded blue players.

Duke only scored 4 points inside the arc in the first half... the rest were 3's or FT's. I'm pretty sure the FG% for the 1st half was ~22%.

Yet they were up 1 point at the half(?)
And remove the last 30 seconds and they were up 4, with a chance to go up 6.

Duke could/should have played better, but they deserved the win.

You outplayed us. We played very poorly over the last 8-10 minutes and Duke didn't. We couldn't hit our shots, rebound or play defense as well as we had earlier in the game.

Of course you deserved to win.

I respectfully disagree, Vid. In my humble opinion, Duke never deserves to win.

Maybe it's not so much that we deserved to win more than Carolina deserved to lose. They just suck. But cheer up Tarholes, at least you have hope

I think UNC has as much chance of winning a NC this year as Duke. Congrats on the win. No big shakes against this team.

You deserved that win. No team deserves a win that consistently falls flat within the last 5 minutes of the game. This UNC team cannot win the game in 35 minutes like some teams of the past.

Also, Nolan Smith came alive at the right time. Big time players will make big time plays and he fits the bill.

I don't think anyone here has been talking about NC's this season. I mean we were not even preseason top 5! You enjoy this years NCAA tournament now ya hear!

Yes. As for UNC's season I just cannot say too much. I remember our guys playing for the NC in '94 and the miserable season following. I'm talking really miserable. Of course the Duke-UNC game was double overtime in '95.

I think you might want to rethink that statement.
Technically, any team has a chance if they are in the NCAA tournament... and there might be a difference between the heels and Duke in that regard this year.

No idea. Been out of Boone for a few months now. Vowed to not go back between the months of December-March.

Was up there Jan. 30th and the wind chill was -10. Froze my fresh coffee in a matter of minutes. Heard from an old roommate a few days ago that his place had around 13" of snow piled on. And expecting more this coming week. I love the cold, but not the frigid! Much more comfortable in Hickory.

We had 2 feet at Christmas. I've always wanted a white Christmas. We got it but the power went out on Christmas Day and was off for several days. I give serious props to BlueRidge Electric for getting it back on as quickly as they did. We're heading up there on Monday. We may have to hike up yonder 2 mile dirt road but I don't have to worry about visitors.

How about this??? Neither Duke or Carolina will win the NC this year.

LOL at the attempt to use a broad categorization to group Duke and unc together this season, Rick. That takes quite an imagination.

This season's Duke team isn't a final four team. They have the potential to be by mid-March, you never know what could happen, (who predicted Louisville beating Syracuse at home). But they probably won't be this year.
Next season's Duke team is shaping up to be on one of the contenders, however.

This season's heel team will not be a final four team, despite the talent level on the team, (yes, even with the injuries). And I agree, after winning the Championship last season and losing most of that team, they were due for a drop-off, but hardly what we've witnessed to date. UNC will be better next season, but huckleberry will have to coach 'em.

We'll see what happens.

Ok, let's kick some heel on Saturday!!

They had a stat that the largest margin of victory between these two teams was a 35 point shell shocking of UNC by Duke in the 1960s.

Duke was three points away from tying that.

My God I loved that game. These are the kind of games that I watch minute by minute which drives Mrs. Wojo Cult crazy. "Come on, they are going to win. Why do you need to watch the whole thing?"

Because of moments like these when UNC is at its sub-Matt Doherty lowest. Soak up the schadefreund my Duke family.

Dang skippy Wojo. I watched every play. That was a thing of beauty. Duke played with a ton of intensity, something we knew UNC would not match this year. Blowout city baby!
Oh and be assured that THIS GUY to the left of Erin thinks Duke deserved to win.

Congrats on the win. Tail whipping to be sure. One for the ages. I was really pissed at the lack of emotion from our crew. I am not sure it would have mattered had they played with more intensity. Is that the guy Roy "had ejected"?

Yea, that's him.

I would like to point out that the score was 71 to 35 with 11 minutes left in the game.

Coach K took his foot off the pedal and Duke only scored 11 points in the remaining 11 minutes. Final score 82 to 50. (And it had nothing to do with UNC's defense)

Next time any of you heels want to call Coach K out for not having class, remember what he did Saturday night. I could have easily been a 50 point victory that would have gone down in the record books.
