Fred thinks if anyone convicted of meth production or distribution or possession was publicly executed, then that might be enough of deterrent to decrease the meth trafficking and thus enable the return of the purchase of OTC drugs to normal.

I hear you but I'm not so sure about that Fred. Any one who thinks that Meth sounds like a great thing to do with your life is pretty far gone as it is. I mean it is it's own death sentence.

Byrdy thinks that we have let the War On Drugs get out of hand and that anyone who thinks it's ok to prevent citizens in a free society from buying Psuefedrine so that a relative handful of people don't get high has their priorities out of whack.

You can also file this under:
"Gee, I wonder why my health insurance costs so much?"
and
"Gee, where's a doctor when I need one?"
This is the classic case where you punish the majority for the sins of the minority.
I don't really mind signing a form every time I buy a decongestant. However, I wonder how effective such a law is if we aren't collecting the data and sending somewhere.

I don't think meth users are too awfully likely to entirely rational and respond to a public execution as though it were in any way related to them. They'd prolly respond, "poor stupid ****" and continue doing what they're doing.
When I was in Iowa a couple years ago my cousin pointed to a farm that had been in a family for generations. One of the sons had gotten the bright idea he could make a little extra profit on the side selling anhydrous ammonia (used to fertilize corn fields) to a local meth lab. He got caught. Lost the farm. Doesn't strike me that anyone who is capable of doing something that stupid would respond rationally to any deterrent.

Fred has noticed that most meth users are poor white trash & most meth makers/distributors are illegal immigrants from south of the border. Fred thinks the thread starter should be thanking the powers that be who have been lax on illegal immigration for making it difficult to buy his cold medicine.

The thread starter doesn't care who they are, and thinks that is largely irrelevant anyway.

most meth busts in our community are not immigrant related.

The farmer I mentioned who was busted in Iowa came from a family that had been here for several generations.

Prolly dating back to the mid 1800s.

I guess that makes him an immigrant.
