Went to dinner. Was told by a couple of fellas who know that he should hang around. Cross your fingers.
If he is assured of being top 5 I don't see how he can't go. Marvin part 2.
And as good as Tyler is last night showed why he should stay in school. Ulta athletic centers give him major problems and the NBA is full of them.
To the castle Batman!
whoa. interesting, rh. I need to figure out how to install one of those fantastic garage doors that look like an abandonned mine and require a 90-mile-an-hour 90-degree turn over at the Castle ...

It would be wonderful, but I have zero confidence it will happen.

There's another way of looking at the money as well...delayed gratification of a sort. He can go out and take the contract and some weak endorsement deals. Or he can play one more year and be the toast of the NCAA, get an even bigger contract and bust the product marketing angle wide open.

Of course he has to believe in himself and in his ability and will to work harder than he has ever worked.

Add that $$$ argument to the desire to be the best and you might be surprised.

I think sometimes I see a look in his eyes
I have truly enjoyed his effort on the defensive end lately. I am going upstairs to watch last nights game now.
I just posted this on the Wake board, and I think it's pertinent here:

Wright is great from about 8 feet in. If you get him the ball down there - and he's not already double-teamed - then he can put it in the basket almost every time. He scores quickly in an Antawn Jamison-esque sort of way.

He struggles with many other aspects of the game. His free-throw shooting is atrocious, and his outside jumper isn't much better (but is actually somehow better than his free-throw shooting). It's not that he's got a bad stroke. He puts good arc on the shot - maybe too much arc - and he has a decent motion. He just needs to simplify the whole process a bit.

He's not as "quick" as he needs to be sometimes on defense, but he can make up for some errors/lapses with his length. He gets a lot of blocks by coming behind guys and just outreaching them.

Honestly, I really don't think it's cut-and-dried as to whether he should go pro this year. His stock is unbelievably high - and if it is indeed top-5 high, then perhaps he should go. But, he has so many aspects of his game that he needs to work on and improve, and I have to think that NBA GM's have seen some of those weaknesses. They definitely want to see him add a jumper - that was something that Marvin Williams had even at this point in his career. That's why I'm not convinced he'll go as high as Marvin did. If Brandan can add a consistent jumper and get his free-throw shooting above 60%, then that would be a huge boost to his draft stock. The length will always be there, and it will always make GM's drool.
DAMNNNNNNIT!!! The tape I put in the VCR messed up.....grrrrr. Watched the end of the Barton game. What a great finish!
The Bulldogs trailed virtually the whole game. Unbelievable set of two games Ive seen the last two days. Proud to call Wilson home for once. Wink
Hey Brandan! 30 pounds called. They're looking for you before you sign the contract!
I can't see any way Brandan would be top-5 and I seriously doubt top-10. I could see him being drafted mid-late 1st round, at best. Not big or strong enough to play PF in the NBA, nor has he shown any shooting or ball handling skills necessary to play the 3 spot. He is a kid who could make a tragic mistake by going too early.

With that said, he reminds me a lot of Antawn Jamison and I said the same things about him. Both guys kill you with weak side rebounds and putbacks and are lightning quick. If Wright has only 2/3 of Antawn's work ethic and determination, he'll be fine.
If brandan enters the draft, he will, at worst, be the 4th or 5th overall pick.

There's no question at all that he'd benefit greatly from another year at Carolina, to bulk up, to work on his defensive footwork, to work on his jump shot and to gain overall maturity. The question, as always with players of his calibre, is whether or not he's willing to risk waiting another year to cash in.
I know that many people are saying Brandan would be top-5, but I just can't see it. I've seen him listed at 6'10, but I'd bet he's closer to 6'8...I guess we'll find out when he declares and goes to the pre-draft camps.
The only thing that matters is what the NBA scouts are saying, and right now, they're saying he's gonna be the third pick, after Oden and Durant.
I think his projected high draft pick plus the endorsements he'll almost certainly get will be too much to turn down. He won't get the $50 million Nike endorsement that is rumored to be waiting for Durant, but he will be financially secure a year from now. I don't see him returning, but there's always a chance. From my simplistic way of thinking, I'd venture to say it's 80/20 at this point him leaving.

Beware of seeing only the $$$ bottom line. People often turn decisions on myriad considerations many of which are not all about the money.

don bosco

Has every decision you've ever made been about the $$$?
^ bravo.
don, I certainly agree theoretically that not all of life's decisions are about money. But I also don't think any of us can really fathom the magnitude of the possibility of, what, $30 or $40 million, or more. I can't say as a parent that I could tell my kid not to jump at that. Even if he were an NBA bust, he's gonna get a 3 year deal and could be set financially for life. With a little financial counseling (which I think the Carolina family would be sure he gets), he could provide a lot of financial security. And also, if he is a socially conscious person at all, he would have an incredible opportunity to do a lot of good with that kind of money. Not saying he would because I don't know him or his character, but we can't say he wouldn't, either. It seems like most of these guys have nice charitable foundations that do a lot of good. Sure, he could lavish a lot on himself, too, but I don't have a problem with that if one does some good things, too. I just think it's a much bigger decision than most of us can honestly consider.

So the fear of career ending injury is the thing? 'Cause a bad season will still get him millions.

don bosco

Why did he even come here for one year?
Brandan would, I think, help himself a lot by staying at least one more year, but it's gotta be pretty tough to pass up 3rd overall and I think it's pretty likely Roy will tell him it's in his best interests to go now.

Also, I'm not sure how much Brandan is looking forward to playing second fiddle to Tyler again next season.
While I have no idea where Brandon would be picked in the draft, I'm not so sure he is ready defensively for the NBA. I think there are a lot of NBA players that would score all over him. Whether or not staying another year or two would help, I have no idea.
