That hurt. Oh well, pretty impressive game from the Badgers. Props to them for sure. I like the way Dawkins stepped up. Singler appeared to be the only one into the game from the get go. Live and learn.
Yep, we were simply out played and out coached in this game. It happens, so like you said, congrats to Wisconsin they were the better team last night.
Losing in December doesn't hurt as bad as later in the season, so it is time to learn a move on.
I expect to see Mason improve as he gets more in the groove.
Kyle played well, but a little outta control, which could have been him trying to make up for our 11 turnovers and the lack of quality play by TreeBeard, Thomas, & Smith.
Why are Kelly and Czyz tethered to K's bench? In meaningful games, Czyz has not played, and Kelly has played only ten minutes. What gives? Singler played the entire game last night, Sheyer logged 39 minutes. Singler seemed gassed in the last minute or two.
Cryz is a turnover machine and Kelly simply isn't ready yet. I'll be looking for Mason to play more. If Kelly or Cryz get meaningful minutes this year I'll be surprised. Look for Duke to be at it's best when Zoubek is no longer seeing much time at all.
IMO, Kyle was worn out at the end not so much from the minutes but from trying to put the game on his shoulders by making up for the lack of contribution from Zoubek, Miles, & Thomas. (Jon & Nolan as well, but those are different stories.)
Later in the game Kyle couldn't hit either, and I really felt for him more than the others.
Kelly is more of a true freshman than Dawkins, and there are rumors as to why he might be sitting on the pine for now. Certainly he has a lot of promise so in a losing effort maybe we should have bit the bullet and given him game time. But maybe K felt he had already sacrificed some offense/defense by trying to get Mason back into the groove, and every indication is that Mason will be more of an impact this season than Kelly. If Thomas had played better last night, then maybe Duke could have afforded to let Kelly in as well... I don't know.
Olek is athletic as hell, but control is an issue, and additional turnovers is not something we needed in a game were we ended up with 11 versus their 4. (But again, that's just my speculation.)
There seemed to be a lack of a good game plan last night, at least in comparison to Wisconsin. But I'm on the outside looking in, and maybe it was just lack of execution instead of planning.
Either way, early December is a good time to address those issues. I think Duke is still the front runner within the ACC this season, but we'll see.
