Decided to start a thread about this.  Just curious if anyone had any insights, thoughts on position battles, expectations, etc.?  DSH needs to post his BMFD pics again, too.
Sounds like the Spring Game may actually be fun - not the snooze fest it had been the last few years.  Hope a good crowd makes it out.  It's the day after my thesis is due so I will try be out there as well.
joe dailey has been moved to wide receiver. no more interceptions thrown in the end zone.
go heels
Unless he gives them up to his defender. j/k
Of course that was a good move on his part and the coaching staff. It will certainly improve his chances to get a shot at the NFL and I respect the fact that he was willing to make the transition without complaint, especially since he has the credits to graduate.
I'm interested in seeing who comes out of spring practice as the starting tailback. It seems like a wide open race between White, Rich, Parker-Boyd, Elzy, and even Warren.
"We're searching with all of these guys, because no position on this football team is where you can say, 'I've got it locked up.' Every single guy is fighting not only to be a starter, but for us to create some depth. So for the first four or five days, we'll move guys around; we'll try to find out."
One thing Bunting struggled with (though he blamed it often on recruiting) was depth and making players earn playing time. He'd often burn redshirts for certain positions and not others, especially in areas (see D-line, O-line, RB, especially) where there was an obvious need.
Unlike the TTP crowd expecting a bowl game and an 8+ win season, I'd be happy if we're 4-8 and the 8 losses are all competitive. We lost by an average of over 24+ per game up until Bunting was fired (which came down to 11 per game after that). I have a feeling at a minimum, the 52-7 losses won't be happening next season. This team will be a much different team.
I'm actually looking forward to football season. It would be interesting after a few weeks, to see the players assessment of life under BD versus JB.
I agree with Karthi about not expecting a miracle turnaround. I'd just like to see us win the ones we're supposed to win and be competitive in the rest and who knows, we might pick up a couple that weren't expected.
I absolutely agree with Karthi
10 losses by 30 points > 5 losses by 60 points
^ I hope you weren't picking on my post wtz
I just want to see improvement and better execution and less sloppy play.  If that means closer losses, so be it.  Losing games like the VaTech game, where we turn the ball over 5 times and let a mediocre effort from an opponent just obliterate us, is quite frustrating.
Baby steps are my expectations. Our schedule is still difficult with the Gameclucks and South Florida. ECU will be a tough out. Games at VaTech and GaTech will be hard as well. But there is a chance for improvement ...
K-arthi, good luck on your thesis stuff!
I suggest a gathering of board folks for the Spring game.
I could get up for the Spring Game...I think its really interesting how he's dismissed Edwards (which I didn't know about) and moved Bozich and Dailey to new positions.
I think it will be a fun year - if nothing else, I just want to be, like Karthi said, competatitive. I don't want anymore Clemson games, where we are out of it by the 2nd quarter.
I saw where Butch Davis had some cancer removed. He and his family are in my thoughts today.

Ready to break out: Trimane Goddard, safety. Slated to be the Tar Heels' starting free safety in 2006, Goddard missed the entire season after breaking his left foot and undergoing surgery three days before Carolina's opener. He started six games in 2005 and led the team with three interceptions. North Carolina registered an ACC-low seven interceptions last year.
• What is coach Butch Davis looking for in a quarterback? "The quarterback has to make the offense go," Davis said. "We're not looking for a spectacular playmaker in the sense that he has to carry the football team. We want a guy that's efficient, smart and makes good decisions and doesn't make bad plays. That will reveal itself as the spring and summer rolls along." Sophomore Cam Sexton is competing for the job along with redshirt freshmen B.J. Phillips and T.J. Yates and walk-on senior Ben Johnson. Davis said he does not expect to make a decision on the start until the middle of fall practice.
• Guard Charlston Gray, a senior who was a full-time starter for two consecutive seasons, was kicked off the team because of repeated rules violations.
I'm all about football now. Can't wait to see the difference between last season and the upcoming one.
The tarheelblue.com blog has a blurb about the energy of practice and how the players seem to be really buying into and listening to the coaches.
ECU game time (at ECU) has been set for 6pm (9/9/07). Gives the partying pie-rats more time to get liquored up / lathered up in hate ...
