Guess this is about as close as I'll come to an answer. Of course, things have changed recently.
"..... North Carolina and Kentucky will continue their highly anticipated nonconference basketball series through at least the 2009-10 season, North Carolina senior associate athletics director Larry Gallo said Thursday.
The Dec. 1, 2007 game in Lexington is the last game the schools have under contract, Gallo said. But Gallo said North Carolina coach Roy Williams and first-year Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie have agreed the series should continue. ....."

Try Sutton's on Franklin, they usually stock the stuff.

I read on IC that one of UK's highly-touted recruits (Cousins I think) is already talking smack about beating us. Bring your lunch, junior.

Well, Kentucky will be "stocked" next year, so it might be tough. The good thing is that both Wall and Cousins will probably go pro after one season. After that we'll just have to hope that Coach Squid just self-immolates or something.

Yes, UK will probably be good next year. However, the idea of a kid who hasn't played a single minute of college-level hoops talking smack about the defending champs is worthy of a hearty LOL.

Talk's cheap.

It's also not like next year's team is the same one that won the NC. Lots of old faces gone and a bunch of new ones. It should be a better matchup than they seem to think, however. We won't be pushovers.

I would agree with you, psychot.

Perhaps my uncles will have a chance to talk smack to me this year... it's been a while. My mom and her two brothers are all UK grads, though my mom roots for UNC now. Still, I got some trust in ol Roy. Can't wait for an exciting December game!

We shouldn't kid ourselves, that game at Kentucky will be very tough for our young pups to win. Not only will UNC be inexperienced and on the road, but I guaranty you that Kentucky fans, and therefore Calipari, who has many faults but one of them is not a tin ear with respect to fans, will circle that game on their calendars as an early season opportunity to announce loud and clear "we're back!!"
The inability to match UNC's talent in this series over the last 4-5 years has been a sore spot for a lot of KY fans (as the reverse was true for a lot of us when UNC was not competitive with KY in the Doherty era) -- a nagging reminder of where KY "rightfully should" be but has not been for a little while.
Plus, who knows how Wall (assuming he qualifies) might take never getting a serious look (read: scholarship offer) from UNC? He might want to show Roy what he missed.
So while both teams are relatively young but deep and talented, the intangibles are largely against the Heels. But it is certainly a game I have circled on my calendar. The inside match-ups in particular are terrific.

No question Kentucky will be a very tough go next season, but that's the kind of game that makes being a Carolina fan so special.
I think Larry Drew's going to be a very good PG by the end of next year, although he'll likely have have a lot of wrinkles to work out yet by the Kentucky game, and much will depend on how far Will Graves and the frosh have progressed by then, but I don't think there's any team in the country that's gonna be able to handle my main man, Ed in the paint. I think Ed's gonna make Deon into a star and all his teammates a lot better on both ends of the floor.
I think next season is gonna be one heckuva rebuilding year.

Rebuilding with really high quality construction material, fortunately.

Well, yeah, that's always true with UNC--still, though I think we'll just have to wait and see how good some of our frosh are.
That said, KY frosh Wall and Cousins seem to be exactly the sort of frosh who are looking for a marquis early season game to announce to the world that they are surely "one and done."
Is Paterson coming back for KY? I know Meeks is testing the waters but am not sure about Paterson.
Anyway--very big early season matchup with most of the intangibles in KY's favor.

I think most of the intangibles are in our favor.
We're the underdogs, but we're also the national champs, with a lot of talent and experience, especially in the paint.
As to incentive and motivation, by the time the game starts, Larry Drew will be sick and tired of hearing about how Wall is going to dominate him. I suspect he'll rise to the challenge.

You obviously have a good deal more confidence in Drew than I do.
I would say that the Kentucky fanbase, a rabid and hate-filled group indeed, would be very unhappy with a loss in this one. I would also say that there are few things in life that make me happier than seeing an unhappy Kentucky fan---sure, unhappy Duke, Alabama and Notre Dame fans make me happy too.
Once again, anybody know if Paterson will be back?

Patterson is indeed returning. No word yet on Meeks.
Patterson/Cousins/Orton versus Deon/Ed/Zeller/Henson/Wears sounds pretty mouth-watering.

It will be interesting to see if Wall ever sets foot on the KY court.
I think with the strength of our other position, Drew mostly has to maintain control of the ball, especially against pressure. We have other people who can feed it inside fairly well and some interior guys who can pass it around or out. (One of Tyler's few areas where improvement was needed.)
Ginyard has played some point in the past in emergencies and could serve as backup, as could a freshman or two. Coach Williams has been pretty good at hiding weaknesses in teams so that helps too. We have had good teams in the past with less than dazzling but steady point guards and those teams have rarely had as much talent at the other positions.

Very good points, Bomber. Ginyard might very well be the salvation for the heels next season. For as deep as they are in the front court, they are pretty much a tabula rasa in the backcourt.
Certainly though, stars have been created between frosh and soph years--I just saw little last season of Drew that said he was anything more than the New Q. But then, I don't carefully observe and parse the play on the court like some others here. And, that was not snarky---that was a compliment.
