I was pulling for them. That's great. Good luck to them in the next round too!

Thanks! This has been a very up and down year; I am glad for the kids, particularly Greivis Vasquez as I believe his next loss will be his last game for Md.. I think we are in a bit of trouble on Saturday though.

"Nation's best 3 pt team" Cal never looked near as scary from beyond the arc as Duke. I guess that's the difference between PAC 10 and ACC...

PAC 10 can honk my bobo. Way to go MD.

well done.
Cal wasn't over-rated at all. They'd been playing crappy ball for about 3 weeks leading up to this and. Whoever seeded them as a 7 was the idiot. They were more on par with 10 seeds and ran into the buzz saw that's been the Terps of late.
FWIW, I knew that would be a L for Cal the moment the matchup was anonunced. Congrats. Good luck with Memphis.

Ok, this is getting old.

It'll be over soon enough. At least for the guys. We may yet see 4 or 5 more of these for the wimmens.

i have MD beating memphis in one of my brackets, i think memphis is somewhat overrated.

The way Maryland played the first two games, heck the three games in the ACC Tourney, I am not surprised.
Gary has done and EXCELLENT job at the end of the season bring his team to a point where whichever 5 guys are on the court, it is a full team w/ no slackers.
I have never made a secret of how I feel about Gary. However, eat my words, the man has done an EXCELLENT coaching the job the last several weeks. Impressive.

I'm agreed, Wolf.
He is a HOF'er with good reason.
He needs to up his recruiting but I think he has several years left in him regardless of the many terp chicken littles.

It was a good win that wasn't in the bag until the run in the final 10 minutes of the second half. The Terps played good defense against Cal's 3 point shooters and never allowed them to get comfortable from long range. Duke is much more impressive from beyond the arc.
I hope MD can pull off another win and make the Sweet 16. I think they've already shown that they belong in the NCAA Tournament.

Memphis may indeed be overrated, apparently Sallie was the only one hitting the broad side of a barn yestidy

Gary Williams is my candidate for COY. I don't like him. But I have to give the credit.

Memphis was on fire today

It always seems the Terps run up against the team hitting lights out from the 3, doesn't it?
I slept through the second half. I could kick myself because it's the last time I would've seen Neal play. I literally couldn't keep my eyes open any more.
Love my Terps always but this year, these guys were just special.

I dunno. Maybe you'll see him play again if you plan a trip to Italy next year.

Congrats to Maryland. Memphis or no Memphis. Maryland played and earned the right to be in this tournament. Gary Williams did a heck of a job the last 3 or 4 weeks of the season.

After watching memphis play, I don't think they're overrated at all. That guy with the hyphenated name is a MONSTER! He's the size MD needs to play effectively inside.
Goldie had it right: The Terps seem to run into teams that get hot from downtown. Memphis was on fire and would have beaten almost anyone today. I wouldn't be surprised to see them make the Final Four.
Thanks to the Terps for a season to remember. They played their hearts out and you can't ask for anything more. I hope Gary brings in some quality replacements including a couple of talented huge, coordinated men to augment the fine talent he has now. I'm looking forward to next season already.

I like the terps and Williams can really coach, but Vasquez is a donkey's arse, and richly deserved the drubbing he got today.

He is an emotional college kid. As Spanish is his first language, there is a part of me that thinks some of what he says is lost in his translation of his Spanish thoughts into his English speech. A lot of reasons to not be overly critical imo.
Without Vasquez the Terps are garbage this year. Even Gary Williams could not coach chicken feathers into chicken salad. Vasquez was the floor general, and I hope he stays for his final year, though I think that doubtful.
Though the Terps played dreadful defense, they are, by necessity (playing a tight zone which double downs on the ball) prone to the three. They win when the opponent misses their outside shots. Memphis seemed to miss nothing, and when they did, one of their bigs just grabbed the rebound, and either dunked or layyed up the ball for two. Had Calipari not slowed the slaughter down, Memphis could have scored 120 points yesterday, imo!
I would like to investigate the gimmes Calipari's kids get in the classroom. I think the basketball team there gets Georgetown treatment for the sake of maintaining eligibility. At Maryland the professors seem to look for reasons to flunk athletes, plus it is a darn sight more difficult to get into a Maryland or a UNC (or most other ACC schools) then to get the necessary qualifications to enter Memphis State.
